Assignment 4 – Online Presentation
1. What did you learn about the process of creating your presentation? Here's the link to my Online Presentation: The topic of the Infographic that I created for this assignment is about the CVP Analysis and Breakeven Points. It talks about the relationship between cost, volume, and profit. I found this assignment very useful and relevant to what I am currently doing at work and what I will be teaching in the near future. I enjoyed working on this assignment very much as I learn a lot during my process of creating this online presentation from the website Screencast-O- Matic. The program Screencast-O- Matic is easy to use and user friendly. I learn how to use it fairly quickly. After I record the video, I simply upload it onto Youtube and perform some simple editing/trimming. As for the creation of this online presentation, there are two parts: 1) slide and 2) voice over. I am glad I learnt how to create an info-graphic earlier in this course. The slide is simply an info-graphic. For the slide component, the process I took in creating the info-graphic/ slide was 1) understanding the big picture, 2) collecting the data, 3) sorting and grouping the data, 4) finding a narrative, and 5) choosing a format and visual approach. As for the voice over component, I would say that most of my efforts were put into writing the script. The technology aspect was not a problem for me. The way I presented the info-graphic is that first, not only did I perform a general overview of what this video is about (which most people do), but I also showed the viewer where each section is so that they can quickly put a picture to each sections. The good thing about having everything in the info-graphic is that I can easily draw out the relationship among different sections. The strength with presenting this way is that the information presented is clear and easy to understand. In the first part of this video, I went through what is CVP Analysis and why it is important from a business perspective. In the second part of this video, I talked about the relationship between Cost, Volume, and Profit. Lastly, I discussed about how CVP is related to break-even, both algebraically and graphically. 2. Which classmates’ Presentations did you like and why? I like Adam Dewji’s presentation on “Creating a Modern-Looking, Basic Resume in Microsoft Word”. What I like about this presentation is that it is simple yet informative at the same time. The objective of this video is clear and it is easy to follow. This video allows a student to quickly learn how to create a basic resume. 3. How would you use a Presentations in your practice? With university-space constraint and new-teaching- mode trends, there is a high probability that I will be teaching an online or blended classroom setting in my future teaching. Therefore it is important for me to learn how to prepare for online lessons and presentations. The approach that I took in creating this online presentation is that I simply employ a 1-pager info-graphic as the slide for the presentation and record the voice using Screencast-O- Matic. The reason I chose the 1-pager info-graphic as the slide is because this is what I will be using when I am teaching my class. I am glad I was given an opportunity to create an online presentation in this course. It gave me confident and provided me with some tools to prepare for an online or blended class. 4. What would you do differently next time you create an online presentation? At this point, I would not do anything different since I am still in the testing stage. Only after creating a couple of the online presentations and getting feedback from students would I incorporate changes to the online presentation. |
