For a Business Math course that I am teaching, I am currently using the strategy "pre-class assignment". The pre-class assignments are intended to have the students learn the material before they come to class, so that the class time can be spent on more meaningful activities. Each pre-class assignment consists of 2-3 questions. I am not asking the students to pre-read the whole chapter. I am asking the students to work on 2-3 questions before the start of class (which is reasonable). The difficulty level of the pre-class assignment questions range from easy to medium. By doing so, I can teach more advanced questions in class. This strategy works so far for me and I have had positive feedback from my students.
